Vanilla Bean Old Fashioned:
- 1 tablespoon vanilla bean simple syrup
- 3 dashes bitters Angostura
- Ice cubes
- 2 ounces high-quality bourbon

Combine vanilla bean sugar, water, and orange peels in a small saucepan.
Bring to a boil over medium high heat. Reduce heat to a simmer and stir until sugar is completely dissolved, about five minutes.
Remove syrup from the heat and allow to cool.
You can choose to remove the orange peel at this point or leave it in for a stronger orange flavor.
Combine simple syrup and bitter in the bottom of a glass.
Add ice cubes.
Pour bourbon over ice and stir to combine.
Serve with a vanilla bean and additional orange slice if desired.
